Spikenard or Nard, has an unusual name, but is a well known essential oil that has been used since biblical times. Spikenard is steam distilled from the roots of the Spikenard perennial flower that only blooms during the months of August to September. Although it is only available for a short period of time, this essential oil is definitely worth the wait. The warm, earthy, woodsy smell with a hint of spicy and sweet, is a dream to the senses.
This oil has been used in aromatherapy for its abilities to create a sense of peacefulness and relaxation. An exceptional essential oil for hair and skin care, digestive support, and deodorizing odors. Spikenard is not new to the essential oil scene, it is a powerful oil that has a variety of users, which are sure to make this one of your favorites!
To make a relaxing bath before bedtime, to ease your mind into a peaceful sleep, add 1-3 drops of both Spikenard and Chamomile Roman to a tablespoon of carrier oil or a cup of milk and add to your bath water; relax, and breathe in the scents to let your mind calm down for the day. Mix Spikenard with a 3% dilution to your favorite cream, lotion, or Plant Therapy carrier oil, diluted to 3%, to soothe reddened skin and aching muscles.
